Last SL Book Club of the year: Infinite Jest translator panel 12/27 @ 12pm SLT !!!!
Four very nice people who battled with David Foster Wallace's masterpiece, some for close to a decade, for the love of non-visual immersion into another world ...
A year of bookish pursuits is coming to a close but some things never do end: Drax’ obsession with David Foster Wallace’s “Infinite Jest” is reaching new heights with his recent re-read.
And said obsession will be celebrated in style at the big year-end Second Life Book Club on December 27th at 12pm SLT (streamed on YT as well).
Some background on this acceleration of IJ madness first: Drax (and he will be hence-forth be referred to in third person despite him obviously writing this! Don’t ask me why, please?) joined Reddit (at age 53!!) to discuss how Don Gately and Hal Incandenza were (possibly) able to find a hidden entertainment cartridge in the messed up head (aka map) of Hal’s dad after he put said head into a microwave oven, all the while a continental emergency was apparently happening in the Year of Glad, possibly involving widespread dissemination of the samizdat by your friendly Quebecois wheelchair assassins …
Do you like tennis? Are you a former narcotics addict or small time dope dealer?
Were you at some point a Las Vegas-adjacent lounge singer that ran for public office on the promise to catapult toxic waste into New England in order to make America clean again?
No?
That’s fine!
You can still come to the Show (see what I did there IJ addicts and Foster-Wallace bros?)
We WILL entertain you even if you have never touched this addictive doorstopper!
A panel of Infinite Jest aficionados will meet in virtuality (decidedly NOT via video phone!) and through their infinite passion for this transformative piece of entertainment ..uhm I mean literature, will infect you with the ONLY virus that will give infinite rewards!
We guarantee it!
This thing is not like the mold you ate as a child and your mother never told you about (although she is very attuned to your needs, she knows when you are sad and require a hug or something else, because she is ALWAYS on top of things … uhm … in more ways than one …but I digress …)
Panel participants are confirmed as follows:
Ulrich Blumenbach, Germany
Igor Cvijanović, Serbia
Kostas Kaltsas, Greece
Moeen Farrokhi, Iran
Until showtime: stay tuned …. to the InterLace ….. or whatever ….
See you in-world !!!
addendum: since we had these nasty unforeseen tech issues (damn it, Silicon Valley tech bros, can't you give a bunch of lit bros a break?), this particular event will happen THIS COMING WEDNESDAY, January 10th, same place in-world and on YT right here https://www.youtube.com/live/kjzNrlkbDoo live and archived
